1 → 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,200 → Welcome to the product tour. Each block repeats that pattern: the cue number, the timing line, up to two lines of text, and a blank line before the next cue. Save the file as UTF-8 so accented characters display correctly.

  • Timing: hours:minutes:seconds,milliseconds.
  • Keep lines under 42 characters and cues to two lines.
  • Leave a short gap between cues so they don't overlap.

Subtitles for every language

Translated subtitles grow longer, so a cue that fits in English can be too fast to read in German or Spanish. Validate each translated file for line length and reading speed before you publish it.

/ FAQ

Häufig gestellte Fragen

What is an SRT file?

SRT (SubRip Subtitle) is a plain-text subtitle format. Each cue has a number, a start and end time, and one or two lines of text, with a blank line between cues. Almost every video player and platform accepts it.

What is the SRT file format?

Each cue is a number, then a timing line such as 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,500 (hours:minutes:seconds, milliseconds), then the subtitle text, then a blank line. SRT uses a comma before the milliseconds.

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?

WebVTT is the format HTML5 video uses. It starts with a WEBVTT header, uses a period before milliseconds, and supports positioning and styling. SRT is simpler and more widely supported by editing software.

What does the validator check?

Broken numbering and timing lines, cues that end before they start, overlapping cues, lines over 42 characters, more than two lines, cues shorter than 0.83 seconds or longer than 7 seconds, and reading speeds over 20 characters per second.

How do I fix subtitles that are out of sync?

Enter the delay in seconds under Shift all timings. Use a positive number if subtitles appear too early and a negative number if they appear too late, then download the corrected file.

How do I translate an SRT file?

Copy the Text to translate tab, which has one paragraph per cue, translate it, and paste the translation into Rebuild a translated subtitle file. The original timings are applied to the translated text.
